Charging system and Pantograph
Electric bus charging is realized via roof mounted pantograph. Once the e-bus stops at a charge station, the driver pushes a button to raise the pantograph and contact the charging hood. Maximum charge current is 550 A. After a full charge that lasts a few minutes, a fully loaded vehicle can cover over 60 kilometres and hence round-the-clock use. This is the major difference from battery e-buses which have longer range but most often need overnight recharging.
One of the key features of Chariot fast charging 18 m e-bus is the power saving: the net energy consumption (traction only, no air conditioning and sundry consumers) is just 1.38 kWh/km.

3 axles and central motor
The e-bus has three low floor offset axles: forward ZF RL 82A, midships ZF AVN 132, and aft ZF AV 133 without a multidisc self-locking differential.
A central electric motor at the rear axle offers 370 kW maximum net power, 3700 Nm peak torque, and 3400 rpm max operating speed. Features include high torque/ low speed permanent magnet motor and inverter combinations. The motor is designed to interface with standard differentials, gearboxes, and e-axles.

A manual wheelchair ramp is sited at the second e-bus door. Disabled people and baby minders alert the driver through a blue button near the second door. The ramp is extended and retracted manually. A sensor monitors and prevents door closure with the ramp extended.

The seat has a three-points safety belt, an armrest, and integral heating.

Energy storage system
The roof mounted Shanghai Aowei 108 kWh ultracapacitor is the most mature energy store in today’s fast-charging e-bus market. The technology has over 16 years’ and over 85 million kilometres’ commercial operation experience in Europe, Israel, and China. It permits the huge operating temperature range of -40 to +60 degrees Celsius.
The ultracapacitor has no harmful or toxic components, presenting no pollution hazard and no hidden end-of-life disposal costs. Its frequent charge/discharge cycles do not affect a longevity.

PASANGERS' compartment
The passenger compartment has 39+(5 foldable) seats, two rooms for wheelchairs, standing room for 95 passengers, and two disabled access ramps. It is wide and designed for comfortable and safe travel. The compartment is air conditioned and heated for cool summer and cosy winter travel. The spacious vehicle is comfortable for the passengers and driver. It is silent and cuts urban air pollution.

The 44 passenger seats are ergonomically shaped and upholstered in soft antistatic textiles. Customers may choose different upholstery patterns.

Steering dashboard Actia
The Actia dashboard offers the driver a complete set of controls to manage the vehicle. It contains the steering wheel, combination switches, a reverse monitor, a shift button, passenger door buttons, defroster controls, an AC panel, lighting controls, and sundry other items.
Manufactured for quality and reliability, the Bosch hydraulic steering provides highly sensitive and accurate control at all speeds.

Wabco braking system
The Wabco EBS, ABS, and ASR brakes are electronically signalled.
Downhill cruising or braking generates additional current, the electric motor working as generator. Called recuperation, this can provide 38 percent extra charge to the ultracapacitor. Recuperation also occurs when the bus coasts forward by inertia. The recuperation process takes place throughout normal operation.
