The commercial manufacture of ultracapacitor urban electric buses began in 2006. By 2022 ultracapacitor electric buses had covered well over 85 million kilometres, transporting well over 220 million passengers. Aowei Technology emerged more than twenty years ago in the Zhangjiang Hi#-Tech Park free trade area in Shanghai. The company hosted the China National Engineering Research Centre for Vehicle Ultracapacitor Systems and has filed over 100 patents, 79 of them for inventions, including three in the USA and one in Japan, as well as four international patent cooperation applications.
Aowei is helping develop seven industry and district standards, including the QC/T 741 Ultra Capacitor for Vehicles industrial standard designated by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology as the basis for ultracapacitor homologation. The SII Standards Institution of Israel has transposed the Aowei standard for Israeli use.
The Aowei product range comprises all types of ultracapacitors. The company is a systems integrator of ultracapacitor applications and offers comprehensive systems solutions for, among others, buses, trams, electric trucks, mine locomotives, electric and hybrid vehicles, elevators, hybrid engines, and harbour machinery.
The company is China’s sole manufacturer of European Union ECE R100 and R10-certificated ultracapacitors.
