Timișoara, a major city in western Romania, is to add 44 new electric buses to its public transport fleet next year. The Ministry of Development completed the tender for the electric buses a month ago. Worth over RON 136 million plus TVA value added tax, the contract is mostly financed by European funds.
Each new electric vehicle will be 18 metres long and will recharge at 15 fast plus 44 ordinary stations. City Hall states that the new buses will cut waits on busy routes.
“At the moment, on peak days, we have some 80 buses on our roads. The new electric buses will help us increase service frequency and use buses in top condition. Our entire public transport fleet needs a major upgrade,” said Timișoara mayor Fritz.
