The 18m UC electric bus is equipped with a 108 kWh roof-mounted ultracapacitor system and consumes approximately 1.3 kWh per kilometre when operating at a total load of 4.5 tonnes under optimal conditions. The ultracapacitor technology is non-flammable and maintains reliable performance in temperatures ranging from -40°C to 60°C. Additionally, the bus does not require overnight charging—the final fast charge at the end of the previous day is sufficient for operation the following morning. Frequent charge and discharge cycles do not reduce the ultracapacitor’s lifespan.

In Dubrovnik, public transport operator Platanus tested the Chariot e-bus with passengers along various routes as part of an innovative 90-day pilot project at the end of 2024. Powered by ultracapacitors, the electric bus requires only a ten-minute charge at the final station to complete a 50 km round-trip route.

The bus is a low-floor vehicle equipped with a ramp for wheelchairs and strollers. It is also fitted with video surveillance for enhanced safety. The deal includes one 80 kW charging station manufactured by Lyubinsen. Full charging takes between 3 and 4 hours overnight, providing a range of 350 to 400 km depending on external conditions such as temperature, use of heating/air conditioning, and traffic.

The average energy consumption of the e-bus is approximately 0.35 kWh/km. The vehicle will operate seven days a week and is expected to cover around 58,000 km annually.

The brand-new battery electric vehicles will whoosh passengers along the 23, 82, 100 and 101 routes with average length of 11 km in the central area of Bulgarian’s capital without leaving any exhaust emissions. The e-vehicles will feed the metropolis’ other electric transport modes: the metro and trams.

The buses have 22 – 40kW slow charging stations. Average electrical energy consumption is about 0.6 KWh/km. The e-buses are in operation in two shifts: from 4:30am to 14:30pm, and from 11:30am to 00:30am daily (7 days per week), each e-bus covering 58,000 km a year.

The e-buses are low floor vehicles with wheelchair/stroller ramps. They have video surveillance. The deal includes 5 units of 120kW charging stations produced by Gemamex Motion Co. Charging time is about 2-3 hours during the night and is sufficient for 350 – 450km depending on the weather conditions (if heating, air conditioning is turned on, or there are traffic jams).

The average electrical energy consumption of the buses is about 0.35 KWh/km. The e-buses will be in operation 7 days per week, each e-bus will cover 58,000 km a year.

The order for four new low-floor, fast-charging e-buses and three new charging stations is part of a project named Implementing actions to Improve Air Quality in the Metropolitan Municipality through Purchasing Commissioning Electric Road Transport Buses and Trolleybuses, financed by Operational Programme Environment 2014-2020 with the assistance of the European Union Cohesion Fund.

The previous day’s final fast charge is enough to run the e-bus next morning without overnight charging. Frequent charge/discharge cycles do not affect UC longevity.

The brand-new vehicles will whoosh passengers along the new EKO 2 route with 6.7km length in the innermost central area of Serbia’s capital without leaving any exhaust emissions. The route schedule calls for 80-minute cycles including stops at 10-minute intervals.

The routes have four 450 kW AC/DC charging stations. Average electrical energy consumption is about 1.1KWh/km.

The e-buses are in operation from 6:00am to 23:45pm daily (7 days per week), each e-bus covering 60,000km a year.

The line is characterised with a flat profile, heavy traffic and zones with preferential lanes and limited traffic with very low average commercial speed of 16 -18 km/h. The charging time of the electric bus is 8-10 minutes.

The electric bus serviced passengers from 7 am to 6 pm – from Monday to Sunday, amounting to range covered by the Chariot e-bus per day about 130 km.
