The city of Barcelona has opened its first all-electric high-capacity mass transport route with 23+,18m articulated e-buses. The city recently also put into operation 46 light hybrid buses.
Earlier this year Barcelona public transport authority TMB opened a tender for 210 green buses. Of them, 78 will be electric: 29 articulated ones with pantographs for opportunity charging and 49 integral ones with batteries and pantographs for night terminal recharging.
In late 2020 TMB announced a plan to improve the city’s bus fleet environmental friendliness. By 2024 TMB’s fleet would have only gas, hybrid, and electric buses. TMB currently operates 1140 buses, of which 350 hybrid (most diesel-electric powered) and 408 use natural gas.
