The City of Milan will apply for National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) funding to allow public transport operator ATM to roll over its old bus fleet.
The PNRR will give euro 249 million for 350 new zero-emission electric or hydrogen buses for urban transport by June 2026. This will allow ATM to sport 510 electric buses by 2026. The operator has already earmarked euro 195 million of its own funds for new electric buses. They will join the 160 already in service on ten routes. The euro 54 million balance will go into charging infrastructure.
ATM is forging ahead with its Full Electric plan. This calls for complete rollover of its 1200 buses by 2030, making the fleet completely carbon-zero.
Mobility Councillor Arianna Censi said: “Through ATM Milan aims to become a zero-emissions public transport city in under a decade. An all-electric bus fleet will guarantee service efficiency while eliminating emissions. Our city’s green future requires administration commitment to important goals, ATM fleet renewal among them.”
