Amsterdam now aims for zero emission public transport by 2025 instead of 2030. The 17 February Zero Emission Transition letter of intent calls for accelerating sustainable investment. Signing the letter, City transport region Vice Chair Gerard Slegers, Traffic and Transport Councilor Egbert de Vries, and GVB public transport operator General Manager Claudia Zuiderwijk pledged cooperation towards their shared ambition for Amsterdam’s Zero Emission Transition Concession Area.
The city now operates 44 e-buses, with 31 more coming by summer. In September 2020 public transport authority Vervoerregio announced an extra euro 235 million investment as part of a massive “Corona Package” that includes investments into road safety, public transport, and zero emission buses.
In late 2020 GVB Amsterdam launched market consultations on buying between 91 and 142 e-buses by 2025. A first batch of 39 will follow deal signing. All buses will feature rapid charging.
