In the year of Covid-19, the West European battery electric bus market expanded 22 percent. Trolleybuses apart, 2062 new e-buses sold there in 2020. The 1685 sales in the same market made 2019 a notable record year, figures tripling on 2018. The market had taken 5087 e-buses since 2012. Nearly three quarters of them have arrived in 2019 and 2020.
For the Chariot Motors Company 2020 was also a success, with 15 Ultracapacitor e-buses delivered to Sofia and three UC e-buses to Gabrovo. In late 2020 the Sofia public transport operator signed a repeat order for 30 more Chariot Motors UC e-buses.
Chatrou CME Solutions has collected and analysed data showing that 53 percent of urban transport buses registered in 2020 had alternative drivelines. In 2019 this was just 39.6 percent. The Class I share of battery electric buses rose to 15 percent in 2020 from under 12 percent in 2019.
